SUBJECT OF YOUR CHOICE, 300 WORDS So on June 2 I meet the head of the studio. Walter Weintraub, he used to work with my dad at MGM. So he starts talking about dad and how they made some good movies together and some terrible movies together, and how dad gave him his first break, and how he was so selfless and kind and whatnot. Says he wants to give some of it back and would I come work for him and here are my responsibilities. I write everything down in my spiral notebook. So being a movie executive was fun I guess. It’s not like I want to do it for a living though. By August 28 I had three movies in prep plus three in production and two in post, the car’s all packed and I’m ready to drive to Utah State but Walt stops me at the elevator and he gets all pissed off. I say “Come on man, summer’s over.” Like I have to explain what “Summer Job” means! He just looks at me like I’m crazy. Then he starts screaming about the fifth draft of something and the preview notes of something else and pulling out midstream and what about George Clooney? I just give him the finger and leave my keys with security. So I deposited my last check, and now my tuition’s paid through four years. Plus I bought a refrigerator that me and my roommate are going to share. All I can say is I miss my Beemer and my stock options but at least here the air’s clean. This is my first class, so far I like english but I’ve never been too good at writing essays, that’s all I can remember right now but maybe I’ll think of some other stuff later? |
